Our Goal

As park stewards, your family will protect and enhance Thaddeus Lechowicz Woods, a natural forest along the Chicago River, located in the Edgebrook neighborhood. The tasks vary seasonally and may include removing invasive species, building trails, or collecting native seeds. Your work at this project helps to preserve biodiversity and creates a healthy place for Chicagoans to enjoy nature.

Get Ready for the Workday

Check out the video below to learn about the importance of protecting our forest preserves. Prior to volunteering, get the conversation going with your colleagues about the purpose of the project:

Discussion Questions

  • How do you enjoy nature?

  • Do you have a favorite park or outdoor space? What do you like about this space?

  • Why is it important to take care of parks and natural spaces?

Know Before You Go

If you are driving to the project, follow the Honeycomb signs in the forest preserves to find our workarea.

Get ready for an outdoor adventure! Please keep an eye on the weather and dress appropriately. Access to bathrooms is limited.

We will work off-trail at this project and there may be poison ivy, snakes, and/or ticks. Please wear long pants and closed-toed shoes or boots.

You may wish to pack a water bottle, bug spray, sunscreen, and work gloves. We'll have extras on hand if needed.

We will work through a light drizzle, however, in the event of extreme weather or thunderstorms, we will cancel the event. We will email you by 9:00am on the day of the event should we need to cancel.

If you need to reach us on the day of the event, please call/text your Project Leaders Nick & Sarah at (773) 301-2478.

COVID-19 Safety
