Our Impact

Lessons That Last a Lifetime

 Our MINDSET

We learn, give and grow together

 Volunteers

We’re one of few organizations to welcome volunteers of all ages. Honeycomb families come from all over the city — representing 95% of Chicago zip codes. 85% live in low to moderate income neighborhoods.

Unlimited Opportunities

Through a range of programs, resources, and partnerships, we tackle our city’s big challenges. Our in-person and virtual projects are designed so that families can learn, give, and grow together.

Community Impact

A Decade of Doing Good

Since 2011, more than 25,000 kids and families have volunteered with Honeycomb — touching the lives of nearly 2 million Chicagoans.

Honeycomb kids work and learn alongside their parents — growing vegetables in North Lawndale, building nature trails in Jackson Park, and distributing food to hundreds of low-income neighbors in Uptown. In the process, they’re not just giving back, they’re helping transform the quality of Chicago’s communities.

“Honeycomb has been an amazing outlet for me to work together with people dedicated to service. When members of our community work in unison to solve a problem, we can achieve lasting change.”

— Evan Sill, Honeycomb Teen Leader

our bold approach

We put kids at the forefront of social change

Youth are leading movements across the country, and we’re mobilizing our youngest right here in Chicago.

Gaining perspective

We help kids connect with complex issues through personal experience. 72% of Honeycomb parents say their kids are more informed about social issues after volunteering with us.

Inspring empathy

Caring for others is at the core of Honeycomb’s programs. We challenge kids and parents alike to leave their biases at the door and strive to deepen their emotional connections to others.

Connecting communities

The Metropolitan Planning Council reports that Chicago remains one of the most segregated cities in the country. Honeycomb works to build strong and connected communities by bringing families from 120 zip-codes together in service.

Strengthening non-profits

Non-profits are facing incredible demands for their services. We help alleviate resource strain by bringing people-power and resources. Beyond volunteering, 37% of Honeycomb kids donate goods and 18% donate money to our non-profit partners.

Building a culture of philanthropy

When Honeycomb families engage in civic activities together, it makes an impact that lasts for generations. Research shows kids who volunteer with their parents are 3X more likely to be volunteer and donate later in life.

Phone-free quality time

Call us old-fashioned, but we believe the best memories are made offline. Honeycomb programs are designed to help families escape their hectic schedules to connect with each other and others through service.
