Get Inspired: Senior Choir

Senior Celebration. We invite you to discover new ways to socialize with your friends, family, and community. Check out this inspiring video about a senior choir, who are tackling issues of isolation by celebrating the joy of music.

As people age, it is sometimes harder to get out of the house and socialize and make new friends. That's why a group of seniors got together to start a community choir. Together, the seniors are able to leave the house, explore a fun talent, and make new friends. Watch the video above to learn more about the importance of community for older adults in our community.

Let’s Talk

After watching the video about the senior choir use the questions below to kick-start a great conversation with your family:

  • Did anything surprise you about the seniors featured in the video? What made you smile?

  • How did the seniors featured in the video find community connection? Why is this important?

  • How do you express yourself creatively? Why is your creative expression important to you?

  • Bonus! Do you know a grandparent, neighbor or family friend who lives alone and might be feeling isolated? Make a call to say hi and check-in!

Community Connections: Center on Halsted Senior Pantry

The Center on Halsted supports LGBTQ+ seniors through an array of community programs. With a connected Chicago Housing Authority building on site, their Senior Community Center serves thousands of Chicago area seniors.

The Center on Halsted is in need of food donations and they need your help! The Center's pantry is in need of non-perishable items, snacks, fresh produce, and paper products for the seniors they serve. Before you drop off a donation email Todd to schedule a contactless donation.

Try to limit unnecessary trips. If you're out shopping for your own family, consider picking up some extra items to donate to The Center! Please wear a face mask and maintain social distance while dropping off donations. If you or a family member are not feeling well, please refrain from donating at this time.
