Aggarwal Family
Looking for leadership roles outside of high school, 17-year-old Mia joined Honeycomb’s Leadership Corp (HLC) in 2024. Designed for teens and parents, HLC builds on leadership skills through service.
“Our family was first involved in Honeycomb Project over six years ago,” says mom, Lisa Aggarwal. “Lend a Hand to Lurie Children's Hospital was our first project. Both of our girls are artists and this project just spoke to them.”
Since then, Lisa and her husband, Ajay, and their two daughters, Mia and Nina (age 14) have traveled throughout the city, participating in various Honeycomb events and also support a year of Honeycomb programming as a Pollinator Sponsor, providing vital financial support.
The Aggarwal’s love how Honeycomb is “so unique and accessible to all age groups and is something they can do as family.” Lisa continues, “we love how Honeycomb promotes a sense of fun and community that is created through service.”
Make Cards for Veterans and Lend a Hand to Lurie continue to be family favorites, as Mia and Nina love to create and design. Manage a Love Fridge and Shower with Dignity are other events the family enjoys. “We left Shower with Dignity with a new perspective on what homelessness entails on a daily basis,” Lisa says. “We prepared meals and had conversations with those who needed a shower…there was an instant connection.”
“Ajay and I will always encourage our kids to continue on this path,” Lisa says. “Our children have a unique perspective of how people have different needs but in the end, we’re all humans trying to make it one day at a time.”
Lisa and Mia are excited that the HLC will help connect them with more families who are dedicated to service and committed to volunteering every month. With a passion and love of art, Mia hopes to partner up with an organization to take on a Project Leadership role and make a bigger impact in Chicago’s communities.
Mia says, “by filling in the gaps for organizations who need varying levels of volunteers, we are making sure they can continue to do their important work. My family has seen the needs of the unhoused, homeless, sick and underrepresented populations in Chicago. Honeycomb Project has made access to help each of these populations so easy.”
Outside of attending Honeycomb Project events, the Aggarwal family keeps busy. Ajay is in a leadership position for Technology Firm. Lisa is a HR Consultant and a Travel Consultant. Mia is a junior at St. Ignatius High School and enjoys art, running track and tutoring second graders. Nina is a member of FXW School’s debate team, enjoys rowing and is an avid crocheter. The family lives in the Lakeshore East neighborhood and loves to travel and explore new places and new restaurants in the city.
