Welcome to

The Honeycomb Project

About Us

For nearly 10 years, The Honeycomb Project has served as Chicago's leading organization for family volunteering. We provide vital resources and volunteer support to more than 50 Chicago nonprofits.

Our programs address a spectrum of regional challenges including food insecurity, environmental conservation, social justice, and public health. Honeycomb aims to instill empathy, social awareness, and civic action in the youngest of volunteers – building a stronger Chicago for generations to come.

Here you’ll find Honeycomb at Home, our online program designed for your team at The Hurvis Group. This curriculum features inspiring videos, discussion topics, enriching volunteer activities, and more.

So gather with your co-workers and let your service adventure begin!

Lesson Plans

Healthy Food & Basic Needs

Reframing Poverty

Our communities know what they need best. Mia Birdsong calls for a reclamation of the stories of marginalized communities. She quotes Desmond Tutu, who said, "my humanity is caught up, is inextricably bound up, in yours; we belong to a bundle of life. We are all connected, in a community with the responsibility to care for one another."

Environment

People and Planet

Environmental stewardship happens outside AND inside the home. Today, we want you to look at the objects in your home differently. Is that a water bottle or a pot for a plant? A t-shirt or a reusable grocery bag? Check out this lesson about the Rebuilding Exchange, a local nonprofit that's reusing construction waste in creative ways.

Seniors

Senior Celebration

As people age, it is sometimes harder to get out of the house and socialize and make new friends. That's why a group of seniors got together to start a community choir. Together, the seniors are able to leave the house, explore a fun talent, and make new friends.

Housing

Community Care

Listen to Talaya's story about her family's experiences with homelessness and how a collection of dolls became her most prized possession, creating comfort and stability during a difficult time.

Art & Culture

Activism Art

Art has the power to transform communities. Theaster Gates creates spaces where connections can be built between neighbors. By addressing issues of disinvestment through art, Theaster is fostering a community where people can work, collaborate, and make positive change in their neighborhood.

Live Local

When you shop local, you're not only helping the business itself, but all of the people it employs. Supporting local businesses is an important part of strengthening our community, and you can do it from home! Many small businesses provide delivery and curbside pick up to provide you with the services you need and to keep their businesses afloat.
